Queensland is renowned for its stunning natural beauty, from lush rainforests to sun-drenched beaches, making it the perfect destination for camping. Whether you’re a seasoned outdoor enthusiast or just getting started with camping, there are plenty of free camping spots throughout the state that offer stunning views and great experiences.
Here we present 10 of the best free camping spots in Queensland that have something for everybody.
1. Eungella National Park, Mackay - offers stunning views and plenty of wildlife;
2. Girraween National Park, Southern Downs - a great spot for walks, rock climbing, and bush camping;
3. Cooloola Recreation Area, Sunshine Coast - beautiful unspoiled beaches & easy access to nearby fishing spots;
4. Paluma Range National Park, Crystal Creek - offers a wide variety of walking tracks to suit all levels of hikers, swimming holes and breathtaking views;
5. Hervey Bay Foreshore Reserve, Hervey Bay - has a sheltered beachfront perfect for fishing or just relaxing by the shoreline;
6. Curtain Fig Tree Forest, Atherton Tablelands - known for spectacular sights like the towering Curtain Fig Tree as well as lush rainforest flora and fauna;
7. Cania Gorge, Bundaberg - showcases two large lakes surrounded by steep mountainsides with plenty of water activities available in the area like kayaking, boating and more;
8. Seventeen Seventy (1770) - located on the coast south of Agnes Water, and offers stunning views of the ocean and surrounding landscape. There are plenty of facilities, including toilets and picnic tables;
9. Inskip Point, Rainbow Beach - located near Rainbow Beach, this spot is perfect for both beach-side campers and bush campers with plenty of sites and ample shade from the native forests;
10. K'gari formerly Fraser Island – home to some fantastically diverse ecosystems including lakes, beaches, dunes and dense rainforest making it one of Queensland’s premier camping spots all year round.
